The closest thing to a natural tooth.
A dental implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up — it looks, feels and works almost like your own. Book to see if it would be a good option for you.
We offer dental implants as one of the best solutions to replace missing teeth. In more complex cases, we work with specialists to provide implants that best restore function and esthetics.
What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a post, usually made of titanium, placed into the jaw to act as an artificial tooth root. After placement, it is usually left to fuse with the bone for about four to six months before an implant crown — the part you see in the mouth — is installed and the restoration is complete.
In some cases, temporary crowns or appliances can fill the space while the implant integrates. Multiple implants can also be placed and restored with implant bridges or dentures, so implants work whether you are missing a single tooth or several.
Pros and cons of dental implants
An implant best mimics a natural tooth, with its own supporting root and crown. It uses the underlying jawbone for support and does not place added stress on other teeth the way dentures or bridges can. It is more comfortable than a denture, easier to clean than a conventional bridge, and not susceptible to cavities.
That said, implants can still be affected by gum disease and lost if not maintained well, and can fracture or loosen under very high bite forces or grinding. They are also more costly than dentures or bridges. During your exam and consultation, we will explain the factors specific to your mouth and help you decide which option suits you best.
Who might benefit from an implant?
Implants are a good fit for many people missing one or more teeth, including when:
- A single tooth has been lost to injury, decay, or an extraction
- Several teeth are missing and you want something more stable than a bridge or partial denture
- You have worn dentures for years and want something that does not slip or click
- An older bridge is beginning to fail and needs replacing
